Infectious Disease Safety & Emergency Response

When you or a family member experiences a medical emergency and you call 911, the dispatcher will ask a series of important questions about symptoms, recent illnesses, or possible exposure to infectious diseases. Providing accurate information helps ensure that responding personnel arrive with the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Our firefighters and EMS personnel are trained to use different levels of PPE based on the information provided to the dispatch center and current health guidelines. This may include gloves, masks, eye protection, gowns, or respirators when necessary.

The protective equipment we wear does not affect the quality of care you receive. Instead, it helps safeguard both patients and responders by reducing the risk of illness and ensuring our personnel remain healthy and ready to serve the community.

Your cooperation helps us respond safely, efficiently, and effectively—today and in the future.
